Bandidas

My colourful haired friend is a Vegetarian so we took a trip to the Bandidas on Commercial Drive. I never knew how much I liked meat until I was at a place where I couldn't order it. The tacos came in a variety of fillings, walnuts, beans, tofu and yams all of which made me want more meat.

Being a person that eats out everyday, I don't eat out like most people. Maybe I am cheap but I usually don't order booze unless it is a Friday or a Saturday or a tough day at work. My friend order the tequila lemonade and I just had the water. For food we ordered the Laura May (3 for 6 bucks) and the Estelle (4 for $6.50).

The tacos were cheap but a little bland. It was hard to gauge for me being there was no meat. In the end, if you are down with vegetarian and vegan tacos this could be your spot. It was a busy Monday and service was nice but slow.

I need meat with my tacos and salsa with a kick to it. The tacos in your pictures look great but they're missing the meat. Otherwise, I don't think it would be filling enough for me.

I think I'll stick to Dona Cato for now.

I live in the hood so I'm glad to see a cute place but looks ain't everything. I gave my husband a bite of a Bandida burrito...quote too bad it has no meat(a lot more cheese perhaps?). I love Taco Loco chicken tacos, not exactly hipster but in food I don't mind homey/homely.One block north.

It's not that, the food is very fresh and good but I did feel the need for more substance beyond the veg. more beans then? and cheese? can there be too much cheese? just saying, for meat go to Taco Loco, then pop down the street and chill at Bandidas. play a game or something.sheesh,it's all good.

why even bother with a review about a vegetarian restaurant if all your do is whine about there being no meat. you're smart enough to know what "vegetarian" means right?

and just because people are vegetarian doesn't mean they settle for bland/boring/shitty food. if all you do is eat veggies/grains/nuts/etc - your tastes become more discerning as a food group is cut out. like when other senses heighten after you lose one.

I went to Bandidas for the first time last weekend. It was great - the salsa had a nice little kick, the potatoes and sweet potatoes were roasted with whole cloves of garlic (!), and the tofu/butternut squash filling was extremely tasty. The service was a little too relaxed for my liking (slow to seat us, slow to clear tables, slow to bring the bill) and the decaf I ordered never showed up, but I enjoyed the visit overall and can't wait to go back.

Alright, it's official. I need to review this place once and for all.

I loved Bandidas Taquiera! As a vegetarian I would totally go back - and for vegans, everything can be modified. My review is here

I love Bandidas. I have a huge appetite (fast metabolism and lots of cycling) and I can always find something to fill me up. If you crave protein, get the Breakfast Burrito, its stuffed with eggs.

I do think the brunch menu is the tastiest. The Hicks Benny is mouth watering.

Anybody that says they "need" meat, is wrong. (looking at you Holly)

Also, buying "cheap" food is not the best route to the tastiest food. Its like ordering plain and then complaining that its plain.
