We received a slew of press releases from pretty much anyone offering a Mother’s Day brunch, for which we kindly provide this general summary: “I wanna say a little something that’s long overdue, the disrespect to women has got to be through. To all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends, I wanna offer my love and respect to the end.” (RIP MCA.)

Apart from that, here’s a few events you may or may not care about:

- the Cloverdale Rodeo & County Fair is throwing its first BBQ competition on May 19th (the bacon day) and May 20th (the pork shoulder/beef brisket/chicken/ribs day) with teams competing for $10,000 in cash prizes. Samples available after the judges have their taste.

- Into the Vineyard offers a wine-travel night at the Roundhouse in Yaletown on May 24th (6 to 9:30pm), with wineries and travel providers on hand (along with Kurtis Kolt) to hobnob about wine-focused vacations. Tickets are $35, or $30 for groups of 6 or more.

- Mission Hill Family Estate has two summer concerts scheduled: Lyle Lovett on July 12th and Chris Isaak on July 27th. Tickets are $99 for each show, with additional packages for additional perks (at additional cost).

- the Arts Club Theatre Company offers their line-up of fundraising dinners/cooking classes, which run May 28 through to July 18.  Each dinner costs $125 per person, with a $50 tax receipt.  The full calendar is available here, with the featured chefs including David Robertson (Dirty Apron), Anthony Sedlak (The Main/American Cheesesteak Co.), Ned Bell (Yew), Tim Evans (Siena), Quang Dang (West), Jefferson Alvarez (Fraiche), and Tom Lee (Edible Canada).
